       พลาสติก ยางธรรมชาติ และยางสังเคราะห์ต่างเป็นวัสดุที่มีสมบัติเฉพาะแตกต่างกัน โดยในปัจจุบันเป็นวัสดุสำคัญในการนำมาใช้งานอย่างแพร่หลาย โดยเฉพาะการเป็นวัสดุสนับสนุนอุตสาหกรรม
การผลิตสำคัญต่างๆ อาทิ อุตสาหกรรมยานยนต์ อุตสาหกรรมเครื่องมือแพทย์ หรืออุตสาหกรรมก่อสร้าง เป็นต้น โดยวัสดุดังกล่าวสามารถช่วยสร้างมูลค่าเพิ่มให้กับการผลิตและสร้างเม็ดเงินให้กับ
ประเทศได้อย่างมหาศาลในแต่ละวัสดุนั้นต่างก็มีจุดเด่นแตกต่างกัน ยกตัวอย่างเช่น พลาสติกมีจุดเด่นที่สำคัญ คือ สามารถนำมาขึ้นรูปได้ง่ายและ สามารถนำกลับมาผลิตใช้ซ้ำใหม่ ยางมีจุดเด่นที่สำคัญ คือ ความสามารถในการยืดหยุ่นและทนทานต่อแรงกระแทกต่างๆ แต่ในแต่ละวัสดุต่างก็มีข้อจำกัดในการใช้งาน ทั้งนี้ ด้วยความก้าวหน้าเชิงวัสดุศาสตร์จึงได้มีการนำวัสดุต่างชนิดมาผสมเข้าด้วยกัน ก่อให้เกิดเป็นวัสดุชนิดใหม่ที่มีจุดเด่นของทั้งสองวัสดุและสามารถตอบ
สนองต่อความต้องการเฉพาะได้เป็นอย่างดี สำหรับวัสดุที่เกิดจากการรวมของพลาสติกและยาง คือ เทอร์โมพลาสติกอีลาสโทเมอร์(Thermoplastics Elastomer : TPE) ที่ในปัจจุบันได้รับความสนใจอย่างมากในอุตสาหกรรมต่างๆ อาทิ ชิ้นส่วนยานยนต์ ที่ต้องการวัสดุที่มีความแข็งแรงและยืดหยุ่น หรืออุปกรณ์การแพทย์ที่ต้องการวัสดุที่สะอาด ปราศจากการระคายเคืองและปลอดภัยจากประเด็นที่น่าสนใจดังที่กล่าวไปในข้างต้นนั้น ทางทีมงานวารสาร Plastics Foresight จึงคัดสรรประเด็นเนื้อหาสาระที่น่าสนใจ รวมถึงข้อมูลรายละเอียดต่างๆ ในอุตสาหกรรมยางและยางสังเคราะห์ตลอดจนวัสดุลูกผสมอย่าง TPE มานำเสนอแด่คุณผู้อ่านทั้งหลาย สำหรับคอลัมน์บทสัมภาษณ์พิเศษในฉบับนี้

          Plastics, natural rubber, and synthetic rubber are materialswith different specific properties. Nowadays, they are importantas they are widely used, especially as supporting materials for
major manufacturing industries such as automotive industry,medical device industry, or construction industry etc. They
increase value added and are a great income earner for thecountry.Each material has different strengths. Plastics is easy to form and recyclable. Rubber is flexible and shock resistant.
However, each has limitations. Thanks to the advanced material
science, different materials are mixed to become a new materialwith the distinguished features of the two former materials and able to efficiently meet specific requirements. The material
made from the combination of plastics and rubber is ThermoplasticsElastomer (TPE). It attracts a lot of interest at present in various industries such as automotive part industry which
needs a strong and flexible material or medical device industry which needs a clean, safe, and irritation free material.
From the interesting theme mentioned above, the Plastics Foresight team has selected interesting topics, information on rubber and synthetic rubber industries, as well as the mixed
material of TPE for the readers. As for the special interview, we are honored to have Mr. Boonharn Ou-Udomying, President,Rubber-Based Industry Club, Federation of Thai Industries,
who shares with us the in-depth and interesting information,knowledge, views, and suggestions on rubber and synthetic
rubber industries.Finally, we greatly hope that the interesting topics in this issue will open new dimensions on the rubber and synthetic rubber industries, as well as the relationship between plastics and rubber to the benefit of the readers.
