Background

The ASEAN Federation of Plastic Industries (AFPI) was founded in 1981 by integrating the national Plastics Industrial Associations amongst ASEAN countries. The AFPI, now with seven members, seeks to promote intra-ASEAN economic cooperation and coordination in the field of plastic industry. Its other purpose is to develop and initiate preparation and implementation of plans, programs and projects that will promote and advance intra-ASEAN plastic industries and trade. 

During the 15th Term AFPI Council (2012-2014) meeting held on April 3rd, 2013 in Thailand, AFPI realized that there would be a huge impact from FTA in various frameworks which would influence Plastic market to become more competitive, especially in commodity products. Many manufacturers have to reduce their costs for compatible prices while less consideration would be given to products’ quality. The integrated of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015 will inevitably be the target market for both importers and exporters as the market size would be increased to more than 600 million people. The product contest is initiated as a part of the program to create distinguished awards for ASEAN Plastic Industry under the name “THE 1st ASEAN PLASTICS AWARDS” so as to raise the standards, to develop and the create more value added for ASEAN’s plastic products. The winners will receive a certificate and a medal as the recognition of the awards. The winners can use such recognition
for marketing activities.

The competition is hosted by Thailand with the collaboration of many organizations within member countries (of AFPI) namely THE INDONESIAN OLEFIN, AROMATIC AND PLASTIC INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION (INAPLAS), MALAYSIAN PLASTICS MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION (MPMA), MYANMAR PLASTIC INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION (MPIA), PHILIPPINE PLASTICS INDUSTRY ASSN., INC. (PPIA), SINGAPORE PLASTIC INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION (SPIA), VIETNAM PLASTICS ASSOCIATION (VPA), and PLASTIC INDUSTRY CLUB, THE FEDARATION OF THAI INDUSTRIES.

The winners will be announced and awarded at the “Plastic Night 2014” Gala Dinner which will be he ld on Wednesday 22nd October, 2014 at the Thai Army Club,
